Nesting Assistant

Main Function

Under the supervision of the Supply Manager, the Nesting Assistant is responsible for programming CNC machines to optimize part cutting, configuring machines for material processing, executing cutting and milling operations, managing materials to minimize waste, inspecting produced parts, maintaining nesting equipment, and interpreting technical drawings and manufacturing orders to ensure part compliance.

Job Description

Main Responsibilities:

  • Optimize layouts by analyzing component shapes and determining the best arrangement on material sheets to minimize waste while meeting size and orientation requirements.
  • Reduce waste and costs by intelligently grouping parts to limit material loss, thereby lowering expenses and increasing efficiency.
  • Increase productivity through automated generation of cutting plans, saving time and reducing manual effort.
  • Adapt and customize cutting settings to meet the specific requirements of each project and manufacturing need.
  • Maintain software and data, ensuring proper functionality, updating shape libraries, and managing production data to sustain operational efficiency and continuity.

Required Skills:

  • Excellent planning, organizational, and priority management skills to optimize cutting plans and meet production deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of cutting processes, quality standards, and manufacturing constraints to ensure part compliance.
  • Precision and attention to detail to achieve optimal accuracy in component arrangement and production data traceability.
  • Ability to analyze and optimize material use by reducing losses and proposing continuous improvement solutions.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills (production, engineering, quality, maintenance) to coordinate needs and priorities effectively.
  • Analytical mindset focused on optimization and productivity, with a strong interest in automation and cost reduction.
  • Technical leadership and ability to train or guide users in best practices related to nesting and software use.

Requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, with 3 to 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in ProNest Radin nesting software or CAD (Computer-Aided Design) tools, as well as office software (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication skills, analytical ability, rigor, and autonomy in managing priorities.
  • Asset: Experience in cutting optimization and shape library management.

  • Status: Full-time, term position, available immediately
  • Salary: Starting at $49,920 annually, depending on experience
