POSITION SUMMARY
The Cutting & Bending Operator is responsible for cutting, bending, and shaping steel sheets or bars according to technical drawings and specifications, using industrial machinery (shear, press brake, CNC press brake). The objective is to produce accurate, safe parts that meet quality requirements.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
Work Preparation
- Read and interpret plans and technical drawings
- Identify steel types and thicknesses
- Prepare cutting and bending machines and tools
- Ensure proper time tracking on the correct job
- Notify the supervisor as soon as possible of any missing materials to avoid production delays
Cutting Operations
- Cut steel using shears, saws, or CNC machines
- Adjust cutting parameters according to the material
- Verify dimensions after cutting
- Ensure part numbers and project numbers are properly recorded
- Follow stacking order (for large projects)
- Complete all required documentation
Bending Operations
- Perform bending on a press brake
- Adjust angles, dies, and punches
- Verify bending accuracy
- Complete all required documentation
Quality Control
- Measure parts (length, angles, tolerances)
- Adjust settings if necessary
- Complete all required documentation
- Identify and isolate non-conforming parts
Safety and Material Handling
- Follow health and safety regulations
- Use PPE (gloves, safety glasses, safety footwear)
- Handle steel and finished parts safely
- Ensure safe operation of forklifts
- Report any defects and immediately remove non-compliant equipment from service
Machine Maintenance
- Perform basic maintenance
- Clean equipment and work area
- Report any irregularities or defects
PROFILE & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a manufacturing environment
- Metal fabricator & fitter training is an asset
- CNC operator experience is an asset
- Comfortable using a measuring tape and taking precise measurements
- Strong teamwork skills
- Positive, resourceful, punctual, collaborative, and respectful attitude
- Ability to work in an organized, autonomous, and detail-oriented manner, as well as in a team
- Bilingualism is an asset
- Candidate must reside in Canada and be legally authorized to work in Canada
